After a beautiful backpacking trip spent near a cluster of alpine mountain lakes in the Trinity Alps of Northern CA, I was excited to take my references and transfer them to canvas, recreating this majestic sunset. On the way back from Caribou Lake, one of my favorite hikes in the Trinities, I detoured down into a steep bowl containing a smaller lake. Right near my camp was a stunning view to the valley further below – worth the extra effort scrambling down to get there.

This painting was created on 1 1/2” canvas and continues around the edges.
